Design for research
A diagram should convey its meaning in a way that is quickly perceived by the viewer, without sacrificing scientific or technical accuracy. It should be appealing, so that it is interesting to the viewer, arousing a curiosity and desire to find out more.
Diagrams used in academic publications and funding applications often lack these qualities and therefore detract from the overall perceived quality of the publication or application. Careful use of colour, form, typeface and spacial organization are required for a design to be successful.
